What makes Krishna so easy to obtain is this specific process. Without eating, no one can survive. Everyone is thrilled to taste sumptuous food. The Bhagavad Gita states that:
bhuñjate te tv aghaṁ pāpā
ye pacanty ātma-kāraṇāt
“The devotees of the Lord are released from all kinds of sins because they eat food which is offered first for sacrifice. Others, who prepare food for personal sense enjoyment, verily eat only sin.” (BG 3.13)
The so-called spiritualists avoid intake of any food but The Bhakti cult doesn’t impose any restriction on food. Rather, it serves all with the most tastiest and opulent food known as Krishna Prashadam (mercy). The ISKCON movement therefore also has various programs like Food for life where it distributes free Prashadam to as many as possible including the poor. This process is based on the fact stated by Krishna in The Bhagavad Gita:
patraṁ puṣpaṁ phalaṁ toyaṁ
yo me bhaktyā prayacchati
tad ahaṁ bhakty-upahṛtam
“If one offers Me with love and devotion a leaf, a flower, a fruit or water, I will accept it.” (BG 9.26)
The glories of Krishna Prashadam is unlimited. Even if an ant or any species from lower life consumes Krishna Prashadam, it will directly get the human body in its next birth instead of going through the evolution cycle of the soul, according to which it will take uncountable years to attain human form of life. This therefore is the easies way of purifying oneself from uncountable sins residing within the heart.
In this way Krishna opens Himself even to the poor, for love. It is not that God is hungry, for He is the provider. However, He is hungry for love and accepts the above. Animal killing is strictly intolerable to Krishna and His devotees, which has been discussed further in other article. Onion and garlic being aphrodisiac as per Vedic authorities and stinky by experience are also avoided by the devotees. Simply by consuming sumptuous Krishna Prashadam the stinky taste of onion and garlic is forgotten and rejected by devotees.
Just by setting up a small altar with Krishna’s picture, one can start offering food to Krishna and partake the same. Just by eating and feeding Prashadam, the whole world can be transformed to a Vaikuntha (spiritual abode of Krishna, free of anxieties). Because God is Omniscient, it is not difficult for Him to accept offerings unlike us, inconceivable to ordinary souls. However, to the elevated souls situated in love of Godhead, such mystics are revealed.
Therefore the real charity in this world is distribution of Krihna Prashadam and Krishna Conscious literatures that will make the whole world pious. The real poor is the one without the treasure of love of God within heart. The seemingly poor rather can be happy with this treasure as confirmed by Max Mueller’s letter to the British Queen when he first entered India and witnessed the spiritual treasure of India before it was ruined by the British colony.
