The mid-18th century has been a shifting point in the human history with many significant revolutions at the cost of many lives and struggles such as the industrial revolution. However, it also caused a drastic revolution within the mindsets of many individuals. Having achieved success on an economic level, a sense of pride and God-like ego prevailed in the society and dependency on God ceased for everyone could so-called live like God by fulfilling their own needs. In the French revolution, many devotees were forcefully asked to leave God in exchange for death and in this way the dogmatic concept of religion was being kicked out.
However, an improper (fanatical or sentimental) following doesn’t conclude non-existence of God, but its correction. Due to lack of qualified priests, religion met fall down. Neither could the royal class of men then, out of pride conclude, the creator behind the basic material elements that supported their economy and factories.
The building doesn’t get erected by itself but takes a collective labour of many souls. Neither does the big aeroplane fly on its own and needs a person to set it to autopilot. Neither do the seemingly automatically working watches, robot nor do machines operate by their own for behind their wonderful mechanism lies the conscious mechanical pre-manipulation of a person. Considering them to be without a person is like a child who considers a car to be operating automatically while the real engineer knows its internal working. It takes an incredible intelligence, talent and energy to pain a realistic seeming flower on a canvas. How can the real flower with attractive smell, colour and patterns grow just by itself? Neither does the body grow on its own but due to the presence of the driver within, spirit soul.
Therefore, the idea that the material nature operates on its own even if considered divine is a childish idea. The proper understanding however is obtained from The Bhagavad Gita:
“This material nature, which is one of My energies, is working under My direction, O son of Kuntī, producing all moving and non-moving beings. Under its rule this manifestation is created and annihilated again and gain.”(BG 9.10)
Nothing occurs by chance or automatically, rather everything is happening through the medium of nature working under the guidance of a Supreme Person, unapproachable by the dint of speculation, imagination, experiments. Before turning a debate to a barking session, one must first ponder what qualification does it take to even receive a reply from The President of States, what to speak of The President of cosmic universe, with million universes within it, of which our planet is merely a spot within another spots. For the same reason it’s said “A gentleman thinks twice before speaking.”
Neither the topmost scientists nor the philosophers will be escaping the death or the illusion of mirage in a desert nor would anyone be seeing the actual size of sun with their naked eyes, hence concluding human imperfections. And what outcome would an imperfect source give? Imperfect. Therefore a gentleman will conclude, that taking shelter of the imperfect senses for speculation, which are the very source of their misery is not being human.
People neglect God by stating “Ignorance is Bliss” for it allows them to unrestrictedly engage in sinful acts. However, God’s omnipotence is independent of faith or belief just as a child who plays with fire burns his hand irrespective of his beliefs.
The theory that God becomes human is misleading. It is not by mystic power or meditational process that anyone can become God for God is God eternally and the rest are The Supreme Father’s eternal sons constitutionally, who, due to their misuse of independence for independent enjoyment have fallen into the prison house called material existence, the existence of temporariness and distress (dukhalayam asasvatam).
If God exists then why isn’t He visible? Why doesn’t He reveal? The scriptures answer that because our vision is tainted with the lusty desires for independent enjoyment, God doesn’t reveal to us but for those whose eyes are tinged with the salve of love for Him, to them God is personally visible in everything and everything visible within Him. In other words such a devotee is never separated from God and the process of attaining this platform is called bhakti yoga, our actual religion.
